Patricia Jean Bishop

Pat Bishop passed away at home, as she wished, on Friday, Sept 26th, 2025 after living an incredible 95 full years. Pat was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the fourth child and first daughter of George C & Edna R Sutherland. She married Norman Ivan Bishop on April 2, 1948. They moved to Chicago, Illinois; Tallahassee, Florida and then to Corvallis, Oregon in 1963, following her husband’s professional life. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, oma, sister and aunt; the matriarch of her family. She loved gathering her family members, cooking delicious meals and celebrating birthdays & holidays in her home, planning annual trips to Sunriver, and gatherings at Otter Crest on the Oregon Coast, a favorite spot. She had the patience of a saint and a sense of humor until the very end. Gracious, welcoming, independent, and wise; frugal, and extremely generous. She survived a ruptured appendix in 1937 prior to antibiotics and COVID pneumonia at age 93. She was resilient, a trooper and a quiet fighter. When her children were older, she began working for the Corvallis School District as the secretary to the Assistant Superintendent, a job she loved. She valued her time volunteering at the OSU Thrift Store and NAMI. She looked forward to her book groups, playing bridge, her daily walks, visits from family and her weekly 4G (generation) dinners. She moved to Stoneybrook Lodge Independent Living in 2021 and enjoyed making new friends in her 90s. She and her husband lived in Germany, Denmark, and Sweden for sabbaticals and traveled extensively around the world, independently and on tours. She always said she could be ‘ready to travel anywhere with a fifteen minute notice’ Pat is survived by her children Norman Bryan Bishop (Sherie), Julie Janssen, and Diane Bishop Martin (Steven); her grandchildren Preston Bishop (Macy), Nicole Connaghan (Sean), Aaron Janssen (Sonja), Marshall Carrier (Cheyenne), Danielle Summers (Brian), Tera Martin (Tyler), and Allie Boeder (Keaton), and her great grandchildren Max & Vivienne Bishop, Collin & Chase Connaghan, Kharma & Walker Summers, Sayer King Martin, and Ronan & Holly Boeder. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Norman Bishop (2017), two sons - Craig (1953) and Jim (2003) and two grandsons - Jimmy (1997) and Marc (2001). A celebration of life will be held on November 8th, at 2pm at the Stoneybrook Clubhouse. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to OPB, Greenbelt Land Trust, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
