Margaret Cook

Margaret Jean Clark Cook was born in Philomath, Oregon on December 4, 1925. She was adopted by Marvin and Thelma Clark at an early age, and grew up in the Blodgett –Summit area. She graduated from Kings Valley high School. She married Lawrence Blain Cook on October 18, 1943, and spent the first part of their marriage in Newport, Rhode Island, where her husband was based in the United States Navy. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Lawrence and Margaret owned a tree farm in Blodgett. Their excellent stewardship of the land enabled them to expand the tree farm over the years and leave a lasting legacy for their family. Margaret was an avid homemaker and a Lincoln County Home Extension member. She served as the Chairman of the Tum Tum Precinct for years. She and her husband were among the founding members of the Blodgett Community Church, where she was active in the Dorcas Circle and helped with the Widows Luncheon program. In 1979, when the local Burnt Woods Café was in danger of closing its doors, Margaret boldly stepped up and kept it going for a year. She was involved in many arts and crafts over the years, and made beautiful quilts that were much admired. She always had a garden, and canned fruits and vegetables. Everyone loved her chocolate chip cookies. After Lawrence’s unexpected death in 1983, Margaret continued in the tree farm business that they had started. She was honored for her stewardship being named Lincoln County Tree Farmer of the year in 1993. Margaret was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister. She is survived by her five children Larry (Ann), Janet (Glenn), Linda (Mark), Dale (Su) and Tom (Rose). She has 21 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday January 19th at Blodgett Community Church. Private burial will be at Blodgett Cemetery.
