Iris Joan Schrader

Iris Joan Schrader, 79 years old, a retired RN of intensive neonatal care, died last Thursday, November 3, 2022, from Pancreatic Cancer. She was in the medical care of Samaritan Evergreen Hospice for several months. She resided in the loving care of Harmony House. Iris was born in Mayville North Dakota and lived in Northern Minnesota with her parents, Arthur, and Leona Pearson. Her parents moved to Chico California after the WWII. Her father worked as an auto mechanic and later as a barber with his own shop in Chico. Iris graduated from the O’Conner School of Nursing, and she attended the University of Santa Clara, Chico State University, UC Davis. She completed NICU training in Seattle in 1975. Alan and Iris met in a biology class. Iris and Alan shared faith and sang in the University of Santa Clara Choir. She married Alan on September 8, 1968, in the Newman Center, Chico, California. Her surviving husband, Alan, is a retiring LCSW, mental health telehealth therapist. Iris had all kinds of interests such as reading the Wallstreet Journal, talking over world affairs, gardening, sewing, knitting, and she had a love of fabrics. She worked in a fabric shop while attending Chico State University and fabrics from the New York garment industry were always special to her. She first went into teaching at UC Davis and then later went into nursing at University of Santa Clara. Iris was Catholic and said a rosary daily, and she was a member of the Conferternity of the most holy Rosary. Iris is survived by her two adult sons, Devon and Lorin Schrader, their spouses Jennifer and Jacki, and 7 grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Isaac Schrader, Isabella Lauby, Claire Schrader, Kaeden Schrader, Seth Schrader, David Schrader, and Yatara Emeliana Schrader. She has 4 surviving cousins who shared her life over the years by sharing dolls, dinners, helping move, and holiday festivities. Her surviving cousins are Joy Bluett, Janet Brossart, and Ray and Renee Patnaude. A rosary and remembrance are scheduled for 2:00PM Thursday in the chapel at the McHenry Funeral Home. Refreshments are available after the rosary at my son Lorin’s home, 7104 Rhoda Way, Corvallis (just north of Lewisburg).
