Edwin Myers

Edwin “Ron” Myers passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 14, 2015 in Albany, Oregon. He was 93. Ron was born on January 21, 1922 in Winnipeg, Canada. His family emigrated to the U.S. while he was quite young. Ron spent his youth in Yakima, Washington and graduated from Yakima High School in 1940. He was a member of the Knights of the Cutlass, and noted in his school yearbook to be “a jitterbug at heart”. As a young man he worked for his uncle as a pinball and jukebox repair man. After graduation, Ron soon enlisted in the United States Coast Guard at the start of WWII with his good friend Warren Jenson. He was stationed in Ketchikan, Alaska for the duration of the war and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Chief Yeoman. On his days off, he could be frequently found honing his photography skills, hiking, or skiing with his buddies. After the war, Ron began training in Chicago for work in the airline industry where he met his future wife Margaret Reyburn. Another opportunity soon presented itself and he was offered a job at the Del Monte Corporation in San Francisco. He not only took pride in, but also very much enjoyed his role in Administrative Management and retired after a dedicated career that spanned over 40 years. After retiring, he enjoyed spending most of his time either on the tennis courts, playing cards, or in the pool hall at Woodlake Village where he lived. He won several pool tournaments as a member of the Elks Lodge in San Mateo. In 2005 Ron moved to Corvallis, Oregon to be closer to his family. Ron will be remembered for his love of dancing, generosity, playing his jukebox, making people laugh, and always enjoying a nice glass of wine (or three). Ron is survived by his son Laurens Myers of Depot Bay, grandchildren Austin Rovetti and Christopher Myers, and great-grandson Ethan Myers. He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin Myers and Dorothy (Barnes) Guffin, and daughter Margaret “Scotty” Rovetti. A celebration of his life will be held at his home from 1-4 p.m. on July 26th.
