Donald Beitel

Donald was born on the family farm near Steward, Illinois to Perry and Ruth Beitel. He graduated from Steward High School in 1932 and from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois in 1937. He decided to relocate to California and worked for Sears Roebuck in Los Angeles from 1937 to 1940. Don worked for General Dynamics as a Navy inspector in the aircraft industry. Following the war, he went to work for Sears as as department manager. Don and Fay Dinsdale were married in 1950 in San Diego. Later Audrey Stout and Don were married. In 1978 they moved to Corvallis and enjoyed the Pacific Northwest as well as traveling in there numerous RVs. They traveled on a freighter with friends to the Far East and enjoyed the unique experience. Audrey died in 1990. In 1998, Don and Sue were married. They took several cruises including the Panama Canal, land/cruise tour of Alaska and New Zealand, plus several trips to Hawaii. Don enjoyed talking to people and was especially fond of young people. He was active in the yard and was still mowing the lawn when he was 92 years old. Don enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, traveling, feeding birds, watching sports—especially baseball. He was a loyal OSU Beaver fan. He was a member of the Oakville Presbyterian Church in Shedd. Preceded in death by his parents; brother Wayne Beitel, sister Jean Fuchs and his wife Audrey Beitel; Don is survived by his wife Sue; stepson Ralph Dinsdale of San Diego; stepdaughter Nancy Golden of San Diego; nieces Jan Nielsen of Massachusetts, Joan Parker of Illinois, Jean Seymour of Michigan, Bette Beitel of Massachusetts; nephew Gary Beitel of Arizona; grandchildren Scott Dinsdale, Tim Dinsdale, Heather Dinsdale and Brad Dinsdale all of California, Pastor James Mucha of San Antonio, Texas and Jeff Mucha of Encinitas, California and many great grandchildren and great nieces and nephews. Many longtime friends and members of the extended family will miss Don. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April18th at the Oakville Presbyterian Church on Church Street in Shedd. The family requests memorial donations in Don’s name be directed to the Oakville Presbyterian Church building Fund or Benton Hospice in care of McHenry Funeral Home 206 NW 5th St., Corvallis, Oregon 97330.
