Dominic Jerome Schlundt, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many, died in a car accident while driving home on February 5, 2014. Dominic was born in Corvallis, Oregon on April 23, 1984 and grew up in Philomath, Oregon. He graduated from Philomath High School in 2003. He was a Specialist in the Oregon Army National Guard for six years and served in Iraq during 2009-10. He worked as an auto mechanic for several years before going back to school at LBCC and OSU, where he was working toward a degree in Nuclear Engineering. He married his beloved wife, Melissa (Johnson) Schlundt on October 22, 2011 in Ashland, Oregon. He treasured every moment of the life they shared together in Corvallis. Dominic left a lasting impression on all those he met, was a deeply caring person, and he loved his family and prayed for them constantly. He loved to make people laugh, and he always saw the good in everyone and everything. Dominic loved working on all sorts of projects and could fix just about anything. He loved buying and working on old cars, four wheeling, and being outdoors. He was there for everyone in his life whenever they needed him, whether it was unlocking a door, fixing a car, or providing a listening ear. He was a voice of reason and encouragement for so many in his life. Dominic was a devout Catholic, attending St. Mary’s Catholic Church throughout his whole life. He centered his life and his marriage on God and was active in many church activities. He volunteered for several years with the St. Mary’s Youth Program, inspiring teenagers to grow stronger in their faith. He is survived by his wife Melissa Schlundt of Corvallis; his parents Robert Schlundt of Eugene, and Susan (Bierek) Schlundt of Philomath; his sister Ashley (and her spouse Michael) Hamlet and their three children; his brothers Benjamin, Maximillian, and Samuel Schlundt; his grandparents Maximillian and Sharon Bierek of Philomath, and Carl and Pat Schlundt of Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dominic’s name to the St John’s Society (P.O. Box 1004, Corvallis, OR 97339), or St Mary’s Catholic Church Youth Ministry Program (501 NW 25th St, Corvallis, OR 97330). Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, February 14th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial, followed by a reception, will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 15th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 501 NW 25th St. in Corvallis, Oregon. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
