July 24, 1995 — July 12, 2016 Alyssa Marie Swain, 20, of Corvallis passed away on July 12, 2016, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday July 23, and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday July 24 at McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday July 24, 2016 at Oak Lawn Memorial Park & Mausoleum, 2245 S.W. Whiteside Drive, Corvallis. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Park & Mausoleum. Arrangements are by McHenry Funeral Home. Alyssa Marie Swain was born in Stayton to Brian Swain and Michele Flath on July 24, 1995. She went to school at Corvallis High School in Corvallis. Alyssa married Mark Richard McCarty on April 15, 2016 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Alyssa graduated Magna Cum Laude from Kaplan University with an associate of science in health science in March 2016. She worked as a hospital corpsman in Portsmouth, Virginia for the United States Navy for 18 months. During that time she provided care to patients in the PACU, helped to create and implement new methods to increase performance, and assisted in training her fellow corpsmen. Alyssa lent her heart and energy into several volunteer events such as helping at Easter egg hunts and fun runs, tutoring children, delivering groceries to seniors, and assisting in retirement ceremonies. Alyssa proudly served as the vice president of the Portsmouth branch of G.L.A.S.S. (Gay, Lesbian, and Supportive Sailors). Alyssa Swain is preceded in death by her stepfather Brant Martin Flath; grandfather Geoffrey Lovell Yung; grandfather Thurman Swain; grandmother Jeanette Swain; great-grandfather Leland J. Ball; and great-grandmother Mildred E. Ball. Alyssa is survived by her husband Mark Richard McCarty; father Brian Swain; mother Michele Flath; stepmother Sheri Swain; siblings Joy Swain, Derick Swain, Josie Swain, Kaitlyn Swain, Collin Flath; stepsisters Briana Flath, Alyssa Flath, Cassandra Jensen, and stepbrother Aedan Jensen. Pallbearers will be her fellow servicemen and women of the United States Navy. Flowers and condolences may be sent to the McHenry Funeral Home. The family of Alyssa Swain wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the United States Navy for their support in her career, as well as the support her family has received since her passing. Alyssa was a beautiful young woman, full of life and appreciation for everything and everyone. She was known as the woman who brightened every room with her presence. She became everyone’s friend and would do anything for her friends and family. Alyssa adjusted well to change while growing up and wasn’t afraid to push herself to succeed. She often joined friends and family at various half marathons and mud runs. She could turn a dull day exciting, and brought happiness with her to every occasion. Without a doubt, she was our rock, and there are no words to describe the empty place she leaves in our lives. Alyssa will live on in our hearts, our memories, and our good deeds for others. May you finally rest in peace beautiful girl.
