Sandra Lee Glass

Sandra Lee Glass passed away on April 29 2018 after a long illness. Sandy was born July 7, 1941 to Elsie (Schauer) Glass and Lyman Glass at Highland Hospital Belvidere IL. She attended schools in Belvidere and graduated from Belvidere IL High School In 1959. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and did Special Studies of nursing at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Tucson, Arizona. She spent several years visiting her brother Norman Glass in Mexico City where she attended National University of Mexico and University of the Americas. After working at the Harvard Bilingual School as instructor of English from 1964 to 1965, she was recruited by the Center of Aid to the Mexican Indigenous as a translator, Field Trip coordinator and secretary from 1965-1967. Sandy worked as an Instructor of English as a Second Language at the American English Institute from 1967 to 1970 teaching English to developed lifelong friendships with Maggie Ochoa and her family and Diane Artis and became close friends with Barbara and Luis Galindo who introduced her to Patrick Neill. In 1971 Sandy and Patrick moved to LA, graduated from The Montessori Institute of Los Angeles under the instruction of Francesca Claremont one of Montessori’s original educators. They moved to Corvallis Oregon and taught at the Corvallis Montessori School. Sandy taught there from 1972 until 1983. Sandy then opened her own school “Aleph Montessori Children’s House” until 2005. During that time Sandy became friends with Ronna Pomeroy , Coby Richardson as well as her best friend Kelly Young whose friendship continued until Kelly's passing. Sandy was a devout Catholic and regularly attended St. Mary’s in Corvallis. She spent many hours visiting people in the Heart of The Valley Nursing Home as St. Mary’s Eucharist Minster from 1986 until 1994. Sandy also was a Guest House Volunteer Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey in Lafayette, Oregon. Sandy also completed the Feldenkrais Professional Training Program at Hampshire College under Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. Sandy had a love of Iconography and studied under Adrian Avran. All of Sandy's friends knew she had a soft heart when it came to her cats. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Norman Glass, her sister Betty Glass Summers and nephew Charles Summers. She leaves behind: Ruth Glass O'Brien, Olathe, KS, Virginia Glass Madden and Gene Madden, Rockford, IL. Family: Kevin O,Brien, Mark and Sherri Madden , Paul Madden. Mary O'Brien Patrick, Mary Madden, Anne (Madden) and Steve Petersen. As well as, great nieces and nephews and Friends. She will be missed by all. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 11, 2018 at St Mary’s Church Corvallis, Oregon. McHenry Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family would like to thank Brookdale Memory Care Center in Salem OR and their compassionate staff. Thanks as well to Ronna Pomeroy, Coby Richardson and Patrick Neill for their care of Sandy and to the Young family for all of their love and support. Interment will be at a future time in Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere, IL.
