Ronald (Ron) John Brown

Ronald (Ron) John Brown, passed away on June 24th, 2018, at the age of 83 years, after battling Parkinson’s disease. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Violet (Vi) Brown, brother Larry (Nina), children Gary (Kristi), Jeff (Marcia), and Brenda (Tim), and his 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ron was preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, Margaret and Frank Weber, and his daughter in law, Marcia Brown. Ron was born in Tumwater, Washington on November 30th, 1934 to Joseph Frederick and Sarah Ann (Clauson) Brown. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1952. Ron and Vi met in Olympia while they were living in the same apartment building, and they were married on November 30th, 1956. In 1960, they relocated to Corvallis, Oregon when Ron was hired at Oregon State University as a computer systems analyst, where he remained until his retirement in 1991. Ron and Vi had three children, Gary Lee, Jeffrey Allen, and Brenda Leanne Brown. Ron and Vi and their children lived on a small farm in southwest Corvallis, where Ron was able to raise animals, grow a garden, enjoy the outdoors, and spend much of his time working on many projects. They loved to travel together, go fishing and camping, and be with friends and family. As avid Beaver fans, Ron and Vi attended all kinds of OSU sporting events, and were season ticket holders for over 50 years. Ron ran the clock for OSU Wrestling for many years, and especially enjoyed annual get togethers with the Intergalactic Order of the Cosmos Alumni Wrestlers. Ron was also a member of the Corvallis Community Choir, a skilled woodturner, an athlete on several sports teams, and a perpetual tinkerer, collector, and curious mind. He taught himself many skills, and was happy to share his knowledge and experience with others. Ron was always one to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, family, and friends. He was a loving father and grandfather, and he touched everyone around him with his sense of humor, his easy-going attitude, and his generosity. He will be forever missed. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 7th, at McHenry Funeral Home, 206 NW 5th Street, Corvallis, Oregon.
