Norman Delbert Oleman

Norman D. Oleman February 18,1931 - July 24, 2026 Norman Delbert Oleman, born February 18, 1931, in Kings Valley, Oregon, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, Oregon, surrounded by family. He was 95 years old. Norman was the youngest of 4 children of John (Jack) and Ida Oleman. Norman also had 3 step-brothers. His father passed away when Norman was just 14 years old. The family moved to Philomath shortly after. Norman attended Philomath schools, graduating from Philomath High School in 1948. He joined the United States Army in 1951, serving in the Korean War. After being discharged, he returned home and married Irene Anderson on May 16, 1953. They made their home in Philomath, where they raised their four children together. Norman worked in many local sawmills including Larson Lumber Company, Northside Lumber, Mid-Willamette Lumber, and Peak Lumber. He also worked at a service station, construction of a water treatment plant at Rock Creek, and for Cascade TBA in Corvallis. Norman's hobbies included hunting, fishing, fly tying, bowling, and playing the guitar. He had played the guitar most of his life and together with Irene, they attended many events and gatherings with fellow musicians after retirement. He helped make lifelong memories for his family during many camping and fishing trips to Diamond Lake, and playing his guitar for his children as they sang along. Norman was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Northwest Steelheaders, serving as Vice President of his chapter for 2 years. Norman is survived by son Jack, daughters Linda Duncan and Sue (Denny) Bennett of Philomath, and Laurie Oleman of Corvallis, grandchildren Brad (Becky) Bennett, Brian (Melissa) Bennett, Jeff Merrill, and Wendy (Rick) Zuidema. He has 9 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Norman was preceded in death by Irene in 2024, his parents, brother Jim Oleman, sisters Dorothy Griffin and Alice Spinney, and step brothers Dorval Oleman, Donald Oleman, and Milton Oleman. Norman had an amazing memory and could recount things from throughout his life in great detail. He also had a great sense of humor. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The family plans to have a Celebration of Life for Norman and Irene with the date to be determined.
