Lois M Davis

Aug. 10, 1927 — Dec. 25, 2015 Lois Marie (Falk) Davis died peacefully at Evergreen Hospice House in Albany on Christmas morning, 2015. She was 88 years old. She and her husband, John R. (Jack) Davis, spent the last half of their lives living in Corvallis. Lois (Loie) was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Groton, South Dakota to Christian Falk and Jennie Morse Falk. Loie and her family left the farm in Groton during the Depression. The family settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated from South High School in 1945. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack, on Sept. 4, 1947, in Pocatello, Idaho. Loie was the consummate homemaker, mother, and community volunteer while supporting Jack as he pursued a career in higher education, moving eight times between the Midwest and West Coast. They were Cyclones, Gophers, Spartans, Boilermakers, Aggies, twice Cornhuskers, and ultimately Beavers. Loie enjoyed traveling and when their children were young, they camped out at the beach and mountains—motoring from place to place in a station wagon and teardrop trailer. The family also enjoyed their cabin on the Metolius River in Central Oregon. Later they traveled the world, often with Jack's brother Trev, his wife Dottie, Jack's sister Elaine, her husband Fred and they were never bored if there was a deck of cards nearby. She was a child of the Dust Bowl, the Depression, and World War II. She and Jack were longtime members of Grace Lutheran Church and staunch supporters of Beaver athletics. She had a keen interest in genealogy and her Swedish heritage. She worked two decades at the OSU thrift shop, was a member of PEO, and volunteered in various capacities for Habitat for Humanity. She loved animals and was seldom without the company of her Hungarian Vizsla dogs. She savored her many friendships gleaned from their travels and relocations, and always found the best in everyone she met. Jack preceded her in death in April 2014. She is survived by her sister Lucille Miller, of Bonner’s Ferry, ID; her four children: Joel Davis (Kathleen), Jacque Davis, Michele Davis, and Robin Cronk (Richard); seven grandchildren: Kate Larsen, Claire and Jack Davis, Danny (Denise) and David Lee, and Brian and Lauren Cronk; great-grandson Ryker Lee and many nieces and nephews. A private burial service for family members has been held and a celebration of life event is being planned. Contributions can be made to the Heartland Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
