Dolores N. King

Dolores N. King, 89, died February 6, 2018 after a long battle with Colon cancer. Dolores was surrounded by her loving family and able to stay in her Corvallis home for 57 years. Dolores was born in Great Falls, Montana on October 11, 1928 to parents Blanche and William Squibb Bailey. In 1944, Dolores moved to Corvallis and attended Corvallis High School, graduating in 1946. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Donald Jay King. They were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Corvallis, on October 30, 1947. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in October 2017. Dolores worked in several establishments in Corvallis, including working as an usher at the Whiteside Theater. She eventually worked for 34 years at Pacific Northwest Bell, which became US West and then AT&T, as a telephone operator. She retired at age 50, saying she had loved her job. After retirement in 1982, Dolores helped with other volunteers start the original Corvallis Stone Soup. She volunteered for 18 years at Stone Soup. Dolores and Don have 7 children: Pam King Malcom (Joe), Mary Lou King Hitch (Daniel), Donald Jay King Jr. (Debbie), Susan King Harvey (Mark), Kathy King Niell (Brad), Stacy King Rook (KJ), Daniel King (Pascale). There are 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bob Bailey. Dolores was very supportive of her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed gardening, camping, swimming, water skiing with friends and family. Together with Don they built 2 of their family homes all while working and raising a family. A special thanks to Lumina Hospice Team, Keith, Lina, Lynn and Misty - - you made this journey of love easier. A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Corvallis. Reception following at the Social Hall. Interment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery to follow with Family only. Arrangements are by McHenry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lumina Hospice or Corvallis Stone Soup.
