Allan Forrest Greer

Allan Forrest Greer was born on Feb. 10,1939 in Columbus, Ohio. He was a softspoken friend, husband, stepfather, brother, son, cousin, and uncle. He had passions that few might have known about like his love of the World War II era (he even wrote a book and had started another)., tennis, and playing music, especially the piano. Among other things he was a chaplain, a veteran and a skilled potter. He had a thirst for learning, completing several degrees. He studied nuclear physics and after 3 years joined the Air Force. From there he earned a degree in Early Education and taught 5th grade which he did for 2 years. He also studied at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton where he finished his degree in 3 years. While studying there he led a small congregation at a church Oakwood, Ohio. After Seminary school he worked as a counselor at a Workhouse in Dayton for 3 years. He then moved to Bellefontaine where he and his first wife, Kathleen Greer, opened a pottery studio and worked with her for 12 years, making pottery that he was very proud of. After working as a potter he went back to school to earn his associates degree in accounting at Springfield college. His next pursuit was to earn his CPA and after doing so he went to work for the Treasury Department of the State of Ohio. He continued to work for the state when he moved to Troy several years later. After meeting his second wife, Sharon Nixon and dating long distance. Allan took the plunge and moved out to Oregon. He was not one to complain but he seemed to adapt to the grey, rainy Oregon weathers fairly well. After working for the City of Corvallis as a CPA for several years he decided to retire. He spent more time doing what he loved such as reading, researching, writing and traveling around the Pacific Northwest. Allan was well liked, funny (he was quick to make a wisecrack even if he didn’t mean to), kind, and easy going. He liked animals, finding a good friend in his dog Zooey. He will be missed by all of us. Allan passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis, on May 12th of heart failure. He was 84.
