Robert Warren Denner

"Chief Petty Officer Denner became interested in the sea at a very young age during ocean voyages he was able to make with his father, Dr. Warren Denner, an Oceanography Professor at Monterrey's Naval Post Graduate School. At the recommendation of a mentor and friend, Captain Woody Reynolds, he joined the United States Coast Guard in the spring of 1979 and attended Basic Training in Alameda, California. After Basic Training he was posted to the Naval Training Center in Orlando, Florida where he attended Navy Signal man and Navy Quartermaster schools learning Visual Signaling and Navigation. He graduated both schools in the top 10 percent of his class and was posted to the following Coast Guard in late 1983 to return to college. USCGC MELLON (WHEC 717) Honolulu, Hawaii USCGC MUNRO (WHEC 724 ) Honolulu, Hawaii Marine Safety Office Portland Portland, Oregon After Completing an Associates Degree in 1985, he returned to the Coast Guard and was assigned as follows: Coast Guard Group Seattle Seattle, Washington USCGC CITRUS (WMEC 318) Coos Bay, Oregon Coast Guard District Thirteen (osr) Seattle, Washington USCGC ASSATEAGUE (WPB 1337) Honolulu, Hawaii Coast Guard District Thirteen (oan) Seattle, Washington Pacific Tactical Law Enforcement Team San Diego, California Chief Denner and his engaging wife, the former Suzy McOmber, have been together for 19 short years. And he considers himself a very lucky to have an outstanding Stepson, Erik Amesen - who can claim to have been at sea longer continuously then Dad, having spent 10 months aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN in the Persian Gulf before leaving the US Navy as a PR2 after 5 years service to pursue college. Like is son, Chief Denner also intends to return to return to college - again; this time for a Master of Science in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing. He wants to focus on Geographic Information Systems as tools to better understand and research the Marine Environment; in particular the nearshore areas. During the following year however Mr. Denner will be fulfilling a lifelong dream of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail from California's Mexican Border to Washington States Canadian border." - From Chief Denner's Biography
