Patricia Frakes

Patricia Ann Frakes, 78, of Corvallis died Wednesday, Jan. 30, in her home. She was born in Marmaduke, Ark., to Earnest Odell Bridges and Opal Eidora Olive (Ridings) Bridges. She attended Clover Bend School in Arkansas. Upon graduation, she relocated several times before finally settling in Illinois, where she remained for several years. In 1983, she relocated to Oregon, where she eventually resided in Corvallis. Patricia always had dreamed of pursuing higher education, so she returned to school and studied health promotion and education at Oregon State University, and graduated magna cum laude with her bachelor’s degree in 1993. She also received her certificate in gerontology. She was 59 years old. Her work was devoted to caring for and helping seniors with disabilities until her retirement in 2004. Despite battling cancer four times during her life, Patricia lived life passionately. She enjoyed camping and hiking with her companion, as well as gardening in her yard. She had an adventurous spirit. She was creative and engaged in arts and crafts. She loved literature and wrote poetry. But above all things, Patricia loved her family and took great delight in spending time with loved ones. Patricia is survived by her companion of 27 years, Cecil Torbet; sons Michael and Timothy Frakes; and daughters Stephanie Bridges, Karen Bethell, Patricia Boyd and Kristy Frakes. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one grand-dog. Brother Jerry Bridges; sisters Bonnye Trantham, Libby Thomas-Wheat and Charley Kay Beckman; and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Larry and Jimmy Bridges; and sisters Madge Schneider, Hannah Fuller and Jackie Bridges. Patricia’s celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Circle Church of Christ, 2020 N.W. Circle Blvd. in Corvallis. Pastor Greg Strawn will be officiating. The family would like to express gratitude to all who cared for Patricia during her final year, including Dr. Wei Bai of Samaritan Hematology & Oncology Consultants, Samaritan Regional Cancer Center, Benton Hospice Service, and members of the church and family and friends of Patricia. Thank you for your love and support. She will be dearly missed.
