Marilyn J. Horner

During the early morning of Oct. 18, our dear Mother, Marilyn J. Horner, passed over at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. She was surrounded by her three children Cheryl, Robert and Richard. Born as Marilyn Jean Young on May 31, 1929 in Streator, Illinois, she grew up in the southern California communities of Loma Linda, Los Angeles and Arcadia. She attended college in Walla Walla, Wash. where she met her husband to-be. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from La Sierra College in Los Angeles. After her marriage to Dr. Chester E. "Jack" Horner in 1953, she lived in Corvallis for the remainder of her years. Marilyn enjoyed social activities and was an avid bridge and pinnocle player with long-time neighbors and friends from the OSU Botany department. She volunteered at the Corvallis Thrift Shop, was chairman of the Corvallis High School all-night graduation parties and worked as a medical transcriptionist and mortgage loan officer. Armed with a great sense of humor, Marilyn's warm and unconditional loving personality touched many lives. She loved to entertain and made everyone feel welcomed and accepted. Marilyn loved to plan and host camping and snow- and water-skiing trips throughout Oregon, travel to multiple destinations in Europe and Hawaii, and live the winter months in Yuma, Arizona at the Country Roads RV Village, where she enjoyed trips over-the-border into Mexico. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Good Samaritan Hospital, The Regent, Corvallis Manor and Timberview in Albany for their wonderful support during her final days. Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Robert Byron Young and Mrs. Myrtle Hill Young. She is survived by her brother Robert E. Young, husband Dr. C.E. "Jack" Horner and children Cheryl Horner Bradstreet, Robert Horner and Richard Horner. A gathering and memorial service will be held at the Regent Retirement Community, from 2 – 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 2 you are welcome to come and share your memories of Marilyn. Her son Richard Horner will sing and play a guitar song that Marilyn enjoyed. According to the family, “Flowers are welcome, as Mom loved flowers.”
