Clarence Wigle

Clarence Wigle went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 1st at the Twin Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Sweet Home with his favorite cousins, Betty and Jerry Randall at his side. Clarence was born on June 6, 1927 in Coos Bay, Oregon to Fredrick and Mary Esther Wikoff Wigle and moved to the Corvallis/Philomath area when he was approximately 12 years of age and never left until his final days. Clarence was a faithful member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Corvallis. Clarence may have been a bit challenged but he never let that slow him down…he was a true survivor! After his father and mother passed, Clarence was left to find and make his own way, that was not a simple task…but with the generous and compassionate help of Uncles, Aunts, cousins and the community of Philomath, Clarence made it work! Clarence was a true example of “it takes a village to raise a child and to make a man!” Clarence’s extended family would like to thank all of you who made his life what it was, simple, yet sufficient. Thanks to all of you for your patience, love and compassion that each of you displayed to a man, who at times, really required a lot of each! We, as Clarence’s extended family, want to especially acknowledge a few: The owners, waitresses and patrons of C D & J’s Café, Arnold Beggs Tire Factory owners and staff, Dr. Bruce Byram and all the Philomath Family Medicine staff, Denny and his staff at Denny’s Chevron and the other service stations and businesses in town, the Philomath Police and Fire departments….Clarence was an avid, dedicated listener to his police scanner and spent many hours with Chuck Munger and Harry Avery in the police car as well as the shop…We are sure that there are many others of you that contributed to his daily comfort and life and that each of you has a Clarence story! Clarence was never married, but that did not stop him from believing that he would surely “find that right girl!!” He also loved his car and drove late into his life, finally having to “give it up!” Finally, very special recognition is made to Betty, his cousin and Jerry Randall…who took Clarence into their foster care facility for almost 10 years and provided very loving and special care to him. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Grace Wigle Farris Thompson and is survived by a niece Donna Farris Trask and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers or if you heart just tugs at you, please make your contributions in memory of Clarence to the following: the Philomath Arc Thrift Store or First Christian Church in care of McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday August 5th at Mt Union Cemetery in Philomath.
