Anita Chesbrough

Anita Irene Chesbrough passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2008 in Corvallis, Oregon. Irene as she was known to most was born in Springvale, Maine on November 27, 1918 to Alberic Joseph Poisson and Emilliana Caron. Irene had a lovely voice and as a teen spent many an evening harmonizing with her friends on the porch of her home. Irene felt strongly that she should quit school and help support her family during the difficult Depression years. As a teenager she took care of the household of a wealthy family to earn meals and help the family financially. She continued to take trade classes such as sewing and loved to work with her hands. Irene met the love of her life, Clifford Irving Chesbrough, when he tossed a snowball at her as she was walking home from Foster Grants where she worked. They were later married on September 3, 1938 in Leominster, Massachusetts. From 1938 to 1959 Irene worked and raised four children. Shortly after the birth of their fifth child in 1959, Clifford and Irene moved to Saratoga, California and later to San Jose, California where they lived until moving to Albany, Oregon in 1980. After Cliff passed away in January, 1984, Irene lived in Albany, later in Salem, Oregon and most recently Corvallis, Oregon. She was one of the original residents of “The Springs” in Salem where she made many close friends. Irene is survived by her siblings: Raymond Poisson of Massachusetts Pauline Harris of Massachusetts Walter Poisson of Massachusetts Preceded in death by her sister, Eve (Tootsie) Gendron and her brother, Leo Poisson Irene is survived by her children: Richard Albert Chesbrough and his wife Barbara Clifton Raymond Chesbrough and his wife Helen Fayette Marie Martin Karen Ann Claggett and her husband Keith Cheryl Mary Guth and her husband Robert “Mémère” is survived by her grandchildren: Chris Chesbrough, Lori Butts, Mark Chesbrough, Colleen Chesbrough, John Chesbrough, Amy Chesbrough, Michael Chesbrough, Bonnie McArthur, Wendy Joy, Lisa Beck, Kenneth Hohstadt, Rod Hohstadt, Sarah Hohstadt, Shaun Guth, Jessica Guth, Nicholas Guth, and step grandchildren Jeremy Carnithan, Megan Kuzyk, Sarah Carnithan. By her great grandchildren: Kirsten Chesbrough, Colin Chesbrough, Allen Chesbrough, Irene Senne, Margot Senne, Morgan Butts, Molly Butts, Lucas Chesbrough, Nicolas Chesbrough, Mia Chesbrough, Porter Chesbrough, Lyndsey Austin, Brianna Joy, Kayla Joy, Josh Beck, Thomas Hohstadt, Brandon Cizek, Joseph Hohstadt. Carter Hohstadt, Kaitlyn Fortune, Dylan Luna, Kaine Hohstadt, and step great grandchildren Riley Kuzyk, Jordan Carnithan By her great-great grandchild, Marcus Kravitz By her devoted caregivers: Lori McCormick and Eva Brownstein. A Memorial Service was held Monday, April 7th at McHenry Funeral Home in Corvallis.
